Edu’s Ancestral Sangría Recipe

This ancestral recipe has been cherished and handed down through generations, reserved exclusively for special occasions and close friends. This sangría expertly balances sweetness with citrus, making it the perfect addition to any festive gathering.

Ingredients

  • 2 L red wine avoid white!
  • 1 L Lemon Fanta
  • 1 L Orange Fanta
  • Sugar to taste
  • 250-500 ml Martini Rosso or another sweet liquor such as peach or apple liqueur
  • Fresh fruit (lemon, peach, apple, orange – use whatever is available) chopped
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, Lemon Fanta and Orange Fanta.
  • Sweeten to taste with sugar.
  • Add a generous amount of your chosen sweet liquor.
  • Add the chopped fruits and stir gently to mix.
  • Finally, add plenty of ice to chill the mixture.

Notes

For a stronger sangria, feel free to increase the amounts of wine or sweet vermouth. But beware, it might inspire you to sing and dance!
The fruit serves as a delightful snack after you've finished the drink, having absorbed the flavours beautifully.
For both Anna's and Amaia's nonfirmations, we used Licor 43, which is delicious.
Jesús and María from the summer school Thomas attended in Madrid when he was 17 would have added a cinnamon stick or two.
