This is Idith (my grandmother)'s old recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg minced pork and beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 bread roll soaked in milk
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 onion, chopped optional
  • Bacon for covering
  • Red currant juice or jelly
  • Extra milk

Instructions

  • Mix the meat with the eggs, breadcrumbs (or soaked roll), salt, pepper and onion.
  • Shape into a loaf and cover with bacon.
  • Pour over milk and a splash of redcurrant juice.
  • Bake in the oven at 200°C for 1 hour.
  • Strain the gravy, thicken it, add browning and season with more red currant juice or jelly to taste.
