Print Recipe
This is my creamy, cheesy Macaroni Cheese recipe with a crunchy breadcrumb topping. A comforting classic dish that everyone loves.
Ingredients
- 500 g macaroni
- 125 g butter
- 100 g all-purpose flour
- 1 l milk
- 300 g cheddar cheese grated (1/3 set aside for topping)
- 100 g breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 210 degrees Celsius.
- Boil the macaroni in a large pot of salted water according to the package instructions, until al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
- While the pasta is boiling, melt the butter in a large saucepan. Whisk in the flour and cook for a minute to form a roux.
- Gradually add the milk to the roux, whisking continuously to ensure a smooth sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it has thickened.
- Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in 2/3 of the grated cheddar until it has fully melted into the sauce.
- Pour the cooked and drained macaroni into a large baking dish. Pour over the cheese sauce and stir to ensure that the pasta is evenly coated.
- Mix the remaining 1/3 of grated cheddar with the breadcrumbs and sprinkle this mixture over the top of the pasta.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
